Shikan

A meditation timer with the things that make people keep sitting: routines and reminders, a 30-day programme for beginners, friends who meditate together, and a record of every session. Most of it is free. One purchase unlocks the rest.

What it is

The name means "just sitting". You set a duration, intervals and a background sound, save the setup as a routine, and get reminded to sit. Foundations is a 30-day guided programme that takes a beginner from the first breath to sitting alone. You can see when friends are meditating and join them with one tap, no video and no chat. Every session is recorded: streaks, milestones, badges, heatmaps and charts, and on iPhone it syncs to Apple Health.

How it is built

One Flutter codebase for iOS and Android. Sessions, routines and settings live in a local SQLite database on the phone, so the timer works with no signal and syncs later. Firebase carries the rest: Auth for accounts, Firestore for profiles, friends and the programme content, Storage for audio, Cloud Functions for the server logic and email, Cloud Messaging for push when new content lands. Purchases go through RevenueCat, consent is gated before any tracking, and the app speaks six languages.

How it ships

A tagged release runs the tests, builds signed packages for both stores and pushes them to TestFlight and the Play tracks, with store listings generated in eight languages. A red test blocks the release. That pipeline took six rounds to get right, and we wrote the lessons down as a playbook we reuse.

Where it is

Live on the App Store and Google Play since April 2026, on version 1.9.2, with a hundred-plus users and a five-star average on the App Store. The referral programme that grows it is a separate build of ours, Referra, which you will find under Services.
